If you suffer from bad breath, there might be a few different things causing it. Because having bad breath is such a downer in life, it’s best to avoid it altogether, right? So, to help you, our Niles Dental team encourages you to identify the cause of the issue, and some causes could be:

Infected gums: If you are a victim of gum disease, one of the main symptoms is chronic bad breath. To get your gums back into shape, you need to brush often with a soft-bristled toothbrush. You also need to floss at least once a day and visit your dentists, Drs. Niles and Niles-Smith, regularly.

Dirty teeth: Your teeth can collect odorous debris, which can definitely cause bad breath. So, make sure to brush often. If you can’t brush, rinse your mouth with water.

A foul tongue: Your tongue tends to harbor a high amount of bacteria, which in turn leads to bad breath. So, to freshen your breath, it’s best to brush your tongue after you’ve brushed your teeth.

Skipping meals: If you skip meals, the saliva you produce while chewing and eating won’t wash away the odorous bacteria in your mouth. So, make sure to eat at least three meals a day and try to chew gum to increase saliva flow.

Smoking: Smoking can give you cigarette breath and it can also destroy cavity-fighting particles in your saliva. It’s best to avoid this habit altogether.
