Should you choose Invisalign® or traditional braces? This might be a question you should talk to us about during your next visit. Let’s quickly compare the two treatments and see which may work best for you.
Traditional braces are known for being highly visible. For the most part, the days of wearing full headgear are gone but the stigma of braces still remains. In general, no one wants a full mouth of metal. Invisalign was designed with the intent to be invisible and it is made of clear, removable aligners to help you straighten your teeth.
Traditional braces are worn on average for two years. They are not removable and are worn 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Generally, you will need to follow up with your orthodontist every month or two during your treatment. Being that Invisalign is removable, it is only required to be worn 22 hours per day. Generally, Invisalign treatment plans run between six and 22 months with follow-up visits needed every four to six weeks.
Traditional braces work for all different types of alignment needs. Invisalign, on the other hand, does not work for those who have bridgework or back tooth bite issues. It is also not recommended for those who need to rotate their canines or premolars or for those who need to raise their teeth vertically.
Both treatments work great for aligning your teeth. Many people have used them for years and they have been happy patients with wonderful-looking smiles. If you are interested in learning more about these two methods of aligning your smile, do not hesitate to contact our office.
