Eating the Right Foods While You Have Braces

It is very important to eat the right foods while you proceed with your braces treatment. If you eat the best foods possible, your appliance will stay in tip-top shape and your smile will stay on the right track toward success. If you do not follow the instructions and guidelines of your orthodontist, your brackets and wires can break and your treatment will be delayed. To ensure the best and most successful orthodontic experience, we strongly recommend that you avoid eating the following foods:

• Ice
• Nuts
• Gum
• Pretzels
• Popcorn
• Caramel
• Corn Chips
• Chunky peanut butter
• Gooey chocolate bars
• Hard crackers and cookies
• Chewy candy, like taffy, gummy bears, and sour patch kids
• Hard candy, like jaw breakers, root beer barrels, and jaw breakers

We also ask that you remain cautious while eating the following foods. If possible, please cut them into small pieces before consumption:

• Meat
• Pizza
• Pears
• Apples
• Burgers
• Peaches
• Sandwiches
• Raw vegetables
• Corn on the cob
• Chewy bread, like French/Italian bread
