Halloween cavities are a real problem nowadays, and we are happy to tell you how to fight and avoid this dental issue. We understand that the Halloween holiday wouldn’t be complete without the many treats that are given that day. We aren’t here to tell you to stop eating your holiday treats or to stop trick-or-treating—we are here to tell you how to enjoy your treats as well as maintain a strong and healthy smile, which is by:

Cleaning your smile
Make sure you brush your teeth twice a day, floss your smile at least once a day, and rinse your mouth with fluoride mouthwash daily. It is important that you do so every day, especially on Halloween, so you can strengthen your teeth and prevent tooth decay.

Choosing your candy carefully
It’s best to avoid eating candy that sticks to your smile for a long period of time, like Jolly Ranchers, suckers, and gob stoppers. These products tend to cling to the teeth, giving the sugar and bacteria in your mouth the chance to attack your smile and develop cavities.

Eating your candy at the right time
Eat your candy during or after your meals. Because of the saliva produced while eating, you will have a high chance of washing away the sugar molecules as you eat your treats.

Drinking more water
Drink as much water as possible. Doing so will clean your smile throughout the day. If possible, drink fluoridated water, which is a liquid that washes as well as strengthens your teeth.

Chewing sugarless gum
Chew sugarless gum that has the American Dental Association Seal of Acceptance. Chewing this gum will produce more saliva and will help wash food and candy away from your smile, preventing tooth decay and other dental issues.
